Slovenia Creates First BTC City in the World
Shoppers can leave their wallets at home because Slovenia opened the country’s largest shopping centre, known as BTC City, will soon be converted into a complete bitcoin paradise.
Slovenia’s Prime Minister, Miro Cerar visited the shopping centre and was treated to a cup of coffee by State Secretary Tadej Slapnik, purchased with cryptocurrency.
A BTC mall representative said: “The purpose of his visit was to open the Beyond 4.0 international conference, dedicated to digital society and blockchain, and to get acquainted with BTC City’s strategy to become a Bitcoin City.”
BTC City houses over 490 retails stores and strecthes over 1,556,358 square feet. Located just 3km from LJubljana city centre, it offers world-renowned fashion stores and brands, which range from sports gear, children clothing, and many more.
According to the concept of fintech start-up, Eligma, BTC City emulates an innovative center of sale system to modify the shopping centre in a viable commerce for blockchain technology.
Executives of BTC City said: “Bitcoin City will create an open society which will enable users to pursue their missions as well as develop their business environments in line with their wishes, needs and operating policies.”
“The development of BTC City into a bitcoin city is an important step toward the realization of BTC’s openness-oriented strategy, providing its customers and business partners with both freedom and choices regarding their purchases with new forms of payment.”
Eligma’s digital currency, called Elipay, is currently being installed at a few stores in BTC City.
One-way digital currency ATMs and Blockchain Think Tanks have been set throughout the shopping complex, with officials describing the complex as the greatest crypto mining rig in Slovenia.
